What Is a Microswitch?

 A microswitch is a contact mechanism that has a small contact interval and uses a specified switch stroke and a specified force to make switch action. It covers by a shell and has a drive rod outside of it. Because the contact distance of the switch is small, so named micro switch, also called a sensitive switch.

Working Principle of Micro Switch
The external mechanical force acts on the action reed through the transmission elements (buttons, levers, rollers, etc.). When the action reed moves to a critical point, an instantaneous action generates, so that the ending of the moving contact action reed turns on or off with the fixed contact.

When the force on the transmission element removes, the action reed produces a reverse action force. When the reverse stroke of the transmission element reaches the critical point of the action of the reed, the reverse action complete.
The contact distance of the microswitch is small, the action stroke is short, the pressing force is small, and the on-off is rapid. The movement speed of the moving contact has nothing to do with the movement speed of the transmission element.

Micro Switch Classification

There are many types of micro switches. There are hundreds of types of internal structures. According to the size, they divided into ordinary, small, and ultra-small; According to the protection level, there are waterproof, dustproof, and explosion-proof types; According to the breaking type, there are single type, double type, multi-connected type. According to the breaking capacity, there are ordinary type, DC type, microcurrent type, and high current type.

According to the use environment, there are ordinary types, high-temperature resistant type for 250℃, and super high-temperature resistant ceramic type for 400℃.

The basic type of micro switch is generally without pressing accessories and derives small stroke type and large stroke type. Different auxiliary pressing accessories can be added according to the needs. According to the different pressing parts added, the switch can be divided into various forms such as button type, short lever type, long lever type, bending lever type, lever roller type, etc.

According to the size, there are small, super small, mini small, and so on. , there is a waterproof type. The most common application is the mouse button.
(1) Small microswitch:
The size of the microswitch KW3 is 27.8 long, 10.2wide, and 15.9 high. The parameters have different changes such as high capacity and low load.
(2) Subminiature micro switch
The size of the KW12 micro switch is 19.8 in length, 6.4 in width, and 10.6 in height. It has different functions of high precision and long life.
(3) Super small micro switch
The size of KW10 micro switch is 12.8 long, 5.8 wide, and 6.5 high. This type has an ultra-long life design.
(4) Waterproof  micro switch

The size of SW1 waterproof micro switch is 20 long, 6.45 wide, and 9.05 high.

The size of KW2 waterproof micro switch is 14.7 long, 5.4 wide, and 6.8 high.

The size of KW1 waterproof micro switch is 6.3 long, 5.3 wide, and 7 high

(5) Mini detector switch

There are many types of detection switches, the smallest size is 4.75×3.7×2.2mm.

Microswitches uses in automatic control and safety protection in equipment around our life that requires frequent circuit switching. They are used in instrumentation, electronic equipment, consumer electronics, power systems, household appliances, electrical equipment, as well as car, aviation industry, ships, missiles, and military fields such as tanks have been used in the above fields. Although the switch is small, it plays an irreplaceable role in our life.

At present, the microswitch on the domestic market varies from 3W times to 1000W times depending on the user requirements. Generally, there are 10W, 20W, 50W, 100W times, 300W times, 500W times, and 800W times, and they are generally used in China.
